Burgundermacher Weingut Hohann Gisperg

Description

South of Vienna in the Lower Austrian Thermenregion lies the Burgundy of Austria, which is also home to our family winery. Here, in the so-called Steinfeld around Teesdorf and Tattendorf, where Pannonian winds blow around the vines and barren, limestone-gravel-rich soils store the heat of the day in the summer months and thirst for water, the multi-layered grapes thrive.
The complex Burgundy varieties such as St. Laurent, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive particularly well here. Around 16.5 hectares of vineyards in Teesdorf and Tattendorf, which our family cultivates by hand year in, year out, in all weathers, together with our employees, form the basis for our diverse wines, with red wine accounting for around 2/3 of the vineyard area.

This rugged terroir produces wines with a fresh, fruity character that reflect their origin with their finesse and fine minerality. Typical of our wines is an intense, cool fruitiness that pervades everything from the aroma on the nose to the taste on the palate. Wood is used selectively and carefully to emphasize the fruit and varietal typicity of the wines. We differentiate between four levels of ageing, with the first single-vineyard wines entering the premium segment with the 2019 vintage.

Our heart beats for Burgundy. That's why our range includes all Austrian quality Burgundy grape varieties in various stages of development. Johann junior in particular has dedicated himself to the Pinot & C.O. grape varieties and expanded the Burgundy range to include single-vineyard wines and Pinot Blanc & Pinot Gris reserves with the 2019 vintage. However, the diversity of varieties typical of the Thermenregion can also be found in our varied range.
