Canal leaseholder bench

Description

In the 19th century, two canal tenants in succession - Moritz I. Count von Fries and Georg Simon Freiherr von Sina - owned Vöslau Castle. The latter was also involved in the Southern Railway and the Neusiedler paper factory. Lord of the castle Moritz I. Count von Fries, once one of the richest in the monarchy, went bankrupt soon after becoming a canal leaseholder in 1822. He is said to have been the model for Ferdinand Raimund's "The Prodigal".
The bench is dedicated to him and the history of the canal and invites you to linger. The bench is located on the Vöslau section of the Wiener Neustadt Canal on an idyllic little bridge with a view of the Harzberg.
