Freigut Thallern wine culture since 1141
The railroad viaduct in Gumpoldskirchen, a magical gateway to a world full of history. If you cross it, you will find yourself at Freigut Thallern, the second oldest wine estate in Austria. Gifted to the Cistercian order by Margrave Leopold IV in the 12th century, the Thallern estate has been in the service of wine culture since 1141 and has been continuously cultivated. A total of 30 hectares are cultivated in the wine-growing districts of Gumpoldskirchen and Pfaffstätten. The building ensemble was completely renovated in 2011. In addition to a regional wine shop, a hotel with 19 rooms and 3 seminar rooms was created. Freigut Thallern is particularly popular with wedding couples. The Johanneskapelle chapel in particular is often used for ceremonies.
In the Grangienhaus (former storehouse), attached to St. John's Chapel, 2 wedding suites, 1 junior suite and 16 comfortable rooms in a dignified country house style have been created. These rooms meet the requirements of both connoisseurs seeking peace and quiet and seminar participants.
Rooms for discerning guests in a listed building from the 12th century - for all those who want to experience individual enjoyment.
The chapel, which dominates the architectural ensemble, was built in 1516 in honor of John the Baptist. It houses the "Giuliani Altar" with its famous statue of Christ, surrounded by vines and grapes, with the inscription "I am the true vine".
St. John's Chapel is available for the most significant moments in life - weddings and baptisms.
