jubilee observation point at Harzberg

Description

In 1898, the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy celebrated the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I. To mark the occasion, master builder Anton Kainrath was commissioned by the municipality of Bad Vöslau to erect the anniversary observatory on the Harzberg, the so-called "Harzberg Tower". In the spirit of late Gründerzeit castle romanticism, as a crenellated, 21 m high observation tower, the imposing contemporary witness offers a wide 360-degree view from the Schöpfl, over the Schneeberg and far across the Vienna Basin.

Route 4 of the Wein.Wald.Wasser hiking arena and a forest road lead to the Harzberg.

Refreshment tip: Harzberg Buam

The Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-Jubiläumswarte on the Harzberg is one of the 8 towers on the themed hike "The Towers of the Vienna Woods".
