Kaiserhaus in Baden bei Wien

Exhibition from

April 22 to November 1 2016:

"The Garden Phenomenon and the House of Habsburg - Emperor Franz and his Family."

Over the decades the Habsburg-Lothringen family exerted a very strong horticultural influence on the city of Baden and its surroundings. There are numerous legends and anecdotes about the »gardening« Habsburgs. Emperor Franz II (I) in particular, who reigned from 1792 to 1835, was strongly associated with his gardens by posterity. It does not come as a surprise that a biography of the »good« Emperor Franz in 1881 bore the title »The Flower Emperor«.

The exhibition shows in loving detail how the House of Habsburg, from "The Flower Emperor" to Archduke Carl, the collector of roses, and to Archduke Anton, assiduously turned Baden and the vicinity into a garden wonderland.
