Liechtenstein Castle

Description

Liechtenstein Castle, the ancestral home of the Princes of Liechtenstein, is located on the edge of the southern Vienna Woods in Austria, just 15 km from the center of Vienna. It is not a conventional museum, but a place of rich history and living culture that attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world every year.

Essential parts of the Romanesque castle complex dating back to 1130 have been preserved, complemented by numerous furnishings such as weapons, furniture and beamed ceilings, reliefs and the castle chapel. One of the most beautiful views over Vienna makes the castle an attractive cultural attraction all year round. Today's castle complex was completely renovated by the House of Liechtenstein in the 19th century and still serves as a temporary museum for the family, reflecting the family's 900-year history. With over 60% Romanesque building fabric, the princely ancestral castle is one of the few secular buildings to have been preserved in Romanesque style. The castle's unique location has inspired many artists over the centuries. Liechtenstein Castle offers one of the most varied guided tours of any castle in Austria and houses various collections belonging to the current tenant. It is privately owned and used, but is still open to the public. Visitors can experience some unexpected surprises on the castle tours.
