Trumau

The market town is located in the southern Vienna Woods on the Triesting, roughly on the line that separates the drier, south-western part of the Vienna Basin from the wetter, north-eastern part. The location at this transition zone perhaps explains the place name, as the Middle High German word "drum" means "end piece", in this case "end piece of a meadow landscape". Today's place name appears in a similar form in all old documents and the vernacular also spoke of "drumáo".
