Temple of the Hussars

Description

Classical building located in the Föhrenberge Nature Park at 496 m. The original version, completely destroyed in a storm in 1812, was commissioned by Prince Johann I of Liechtenstein between 1809 and 1811 to be built in wood. Today's Husarentempel was erected in 1813 by Joseph Kornhäusel as the "Temple of glory of war". It is dedicated to the fallen of the battle of Aspern, and the tombs inside contain the bodies of five soldiers from this battle.
